Driving is the highest risk activity most people carry out at work. This course gives drivers the knowledge to recognise hazards early, prepare properly before setting off, and respond correctly when things go wrong. It is written for UK roads and for the realities of construction logistics, where deliveries run into congested urban areas, live sites and vulnerable road users.

- Anyone who drives a van, car or light goods vehicle for work
- HGV drivers wanting a refresher on road safety awareness
- Supervisors and managers responsible for drivers and work related road risk
- Site personnel who move vehicles or plant on and around site
By the end of this course you will be able to
- Explain your legal duties and your employer’s duties for road safety at work
- Interpret UK traffic signs, road markings and signals correctly
- Carry out a walkaround vehicle check and assess your own fitness to drive
- Apply defensive driving tactics on UK roads and around vulnerable road users
- Adjust your driving for rain, fog, ice, wind and darkness
- Recognise how fatigue, alcohol, drugs, medication and health affectdriving
- Act correctly at the scene of a collision or breakdown
- Describe the main road traffic laws, penalties and industry standards that apply to you
- Contribute to a driver safety risk assessment for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes
Assessment. Each unit ends with a short mini quiz. A 20 question final assessment is taken at the end of the course, with a pass mark of 80%. A certificate is issued on successful completion.
